The Cumberland University Phoenix Players presents a Phoenix Players tradition with the group’s fourth production of “Love Rides the Rails or Will the Mail Train Run Tonight?” a melodrama in three acts by Morland Cary.
Performances will run Feb. 28 to March 2 at 7 p.m. and a matinee performance on March 3 at 2:30 p.m. All shows will take place in the Heydel Fine Arts Center on the Cumberland Campus. Admission is free and open to the public. Donations are also accepted.
The show is produced through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.
The story of the production follows the villainous Simon Darkway as he seeks to control the Walker Valley, Pine Bush & Pacific R.R. for his own vile purposes. Assisting him are Dirk Sneath, a viper of a man, and Carlotta Cortez, the sultry siren with a heart of gold. Fortunately, the gallant Truman Pendennis, the beauteous Prudence Hopewell, the Widow Hopewell, and staunch Harold Standfast oppose the sinister schemes of this wicked trio.
