What expenses does the Phoenix Promise cover?
The Phoenix Promise scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees. It does not cover books or any other fees including but not limited to on-campus housing, lab fees or program fees.

Can I receive the Phoenix Promise as a freshman?The Phoenix Promise is only for rising sophomore and junior students. However, you can start at Cumberland as a Tennessee Promise student and transition to the Phoenix Promise scholarship to finish your bachelor’s degree at CU.
Just make sure you maintain a 2.75 cumulative GPA while at CU!

What is the difference between the Tennessee Promise and the Phoenix Promise?
The Tennessee Promise program is only available to first-time freshman students who graduate from a Tennessee eligible high school or completes a Tennessee homeschool pursuing an associate degree that meet the eligibility requirements through the state.
The Phoenix Promise is only available to rising sophomore or junior students at Cumberland, including transfer students. The Phoenix Promise covers tuition and access fees for completion of a bachelor’s degree, rather than an associate degree.

Why is the Phoenix Promise not available to nursing majors, athletes or fine arts performing students?
The Phoenix Promise is not available to students that fall within these categories, however there are other financial aid and scholarship options available to you. For more information on scholarships, visit cumberland.edu/scholarships or reach out to The Office of Financial Aid.
