The renowned Bert Coble Singers have continued a 29-year history of generosity by presenting a generous donation to Cumberland University in the amount of $7,500.00 on Thursday, February 23. Derived from the proceeds of the Bert Coble Singers’ popular Christmas Dinner performances, the gift will support Cumberland’s H. Bert Coble Endowed Scholarship for exceptional music students. Jennifer Perry, in her fifth year as the director, has continued the spirit of giving back instilled by Dr. Bert and Sue Coble, longtime benefactors of Cumberland.

“This was our fourth year to have the shows at Baird Chapel and we are so grateful for the support of Cumberland University, Dr. Paul Stumb and his staff.  There’s not a better place to sing in this town and having our event in this beautiful space makes the evening very special for our guests” said Perry. An accomplished music instructor and director, Dr. Coble built and oversaw Cumberland’s music program as a professor, choir director, and chairman of the music department from 1972-1988. Sue Coble, his wife, is a retired music instructor and teacher as well.

The Bert Coble Singers are perhaps best known for their annual, charitable Christmas Dinner Shows which have generated over $150,000 for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the H. Bert Coble Endowed Scholarship at Cumberland University.  Empower Me and The Wilson County Community Help Center were added to the list of beneficiaries last year, replacing ACS and AHA.
“We are fortunate to be in a community that supports local interests. It is only because of that support that we are able to benefit these worthy organizations and we are very grateful.” added Perry.
