Janice Welch was born and raised in Kansas. She attended Fort Hays State University where she obtained a degree in Zoology and pre-medicine with a minor in Chemistry.

After college, Janice moved to Los Angeles, California and began a career in hospital finance. While there she attended Northridge State University at Northridge, California obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Later she attended Indiana University where she took post graduate degree courses in accounting. Ms. Welch worked 30 years with a successful career in Healthcare Finance.

Now, semi-retired, she lives outside of Lebanon, TN where she has a horse ranch. Ms. Welch has much love for Tennessee and the great people here.

Ms. Welch has one daughter who is a Nurse Practitioner in Georgetown, Kentucky, who attended UK and obtained both her master’s and doctorate degrees from Vanderbilt University. Ms. Welch also has two grandchildren, who are both in high school.

Ms. Waller attended Arkansas State University earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics. She then entered the University of Texas, Austin, where she completed a Master of Science in Engineering- focusing on Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. Following school, Ms. Waller worked for the General Motors corporation and Texas Instruments as a Manufacturing Engineer. Being part of a military family, she moved frequently, and teaching in college became a better fit. Ms. Waller had taught at colleges in Ohio, Auburn University both in Montgomery and the main campus in Auburn, as well as Mercer University in Georgia. For several years, she worked as the Education Coordinator for a nonprofit.

Her daughter is a producer for an advertising agency in Nashville; her son is studying Mining Engineering at the University of Kentucky. Besides time with family, Ms. Waller enjoys volunteering which has allowed her to try many new things while being of service to the community. Currently, she volunteers monthly at the Second Harvest Food Bank and at Habitat for Humanity building houses. Her second hobby is traveling and she enjoys noticing cultural similarities and differences while visiting museums and national parks. Fun fact about Ms. Waller: she has visited all 50 states.

Dr. William Tune joined Cumberland University in the Fall of 2017 and teaches courses in the Mathematics program.  Prior to this, he taught mathematics courses at Motlow State Community College and Indiana University, where he received the Rothrock Teaching Award in 2013.  His research interests are in the field of Mathematical Logic, especially as it applies to natural language, the λ-calculus, and coalgebras.  He received the Robert K. Meyer Graduate Fellowship twice for his research into creating a calculus for representing monotonic patterns in natural language.

Dr. Tune also has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Chancellor’s Honor program and the Mathematics Honors program.  He participated in two summer undergraduate research experiences, and was selected by the Mathematics Department faculty as the 2010 Outstanding Graduate.

In addition, he has co-authored two papers: Eigenvalues and Transduction of Morphic Sequences (2014) and A Monotonicity Calculus and Its Completeness (2017).

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Paul Cavert Stumb, IV, was named President of
Cumberland University in August 2015. He has served Cumberland University since 2003,
initially as an Adjunct Professor, then as a Professor and Dean of the Labry School of Science,
Technology and Business for nearly 10 years.

Dr. Stumb holds a BS from Auburn University, an MS from the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville, a Master’s in Education from Cumberland University and earned his PhD in
Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He is a graduate of the Navy War
College Strategy and Policy Program and retired from the US Navy Reserves with the rank of
Commander. He previously served as an Adjunct Professor for the National Security Agency,
Georgia State University, Shorter College, and Middle Tennessee State University.

Prior to joining Cumberland University, Dr. Stumb enjoyed a successful career in the business
sector, serving in a number of increasingly responsible positions within several corporations
including American Corrugated, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, One Coast Network, Curtis 1000 Inc., Lockheed Martin, and Union Carbide Corp.

Dr. Stumb is a member of a number of professional and honor societies, and deeply involved in civic and professional activities. He is widely engaged in the Middle Tennessee community, and provides consulting services for local and regional manufacturers, municipalities, and other corporate entities.

Dr. Stumb is married to Dr. Cristy Stumb, a CU alum and former faculty member, who now owns and operates Stumb Healthcare Professionals, a primary care clinic in Lebanon, TN. Together they have four grown children and eight grandchildren.

Dr. Noa D Stroop grew up in Wilson County, attending Mt. Juliet Christian Academy. He later acquired a BSBA and MBA from Tennessee Technological University. Finally, he earned his DBA from Trevecca Nazarene University, concentrating in Higher Education Leadership. His work history includes almost 10 years in the food service industry and an equal amount of experience in sales, marketing, and management capacities.  Dr. Stroop is now the Program Director for the Associate of Arts in Business.

Dr. Stroop is a self-proclaimed ‘goal-getter,’ having made a memory in all 50 states by 27 and earning a doctorate by 30. He is currently achieving his dream career of teaching college students’ leadership and life principles in his hometown while building a consulting firm specializing in small business growth acceleration//entrepreneurship and coaching his high school alma mater’s soccer team. He is an active member of Joy Church, residing in his hometown of Mount Juliet with his wife, Nicole, and corgi-pup, Winston. If he isn’t at CU, consulting, or coaching soccer, he is likely to be at a concert, on a river, starting a business, bingeing a show with his wife, or gaming.

Tony has lived in the Mt. Juliet, TN area for the last 15 years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the Jackson College of Ministries, his Master’s degree in Organizational Management (2001) from Trevecca Nazarene University, followed by his Doctorate in Leadership also from Trevecca. Tony has taught in higher education for the past 20 years. Prior to that, he was employed in the music industry in Nashville, TN where he still consults in business development and operations. Tony is also the founder/owner of Quarter Time Publishing.

Tony has been at Cumberland University since 2019, teaching business courses for Labry School of Science, Technology, and Business.

Mr. Chad Smith began at Cumberland University in the fall of 2018 as an adjunct instructor of business. Within the business department, he teaches Introduction to Microcomputer Applications. Prior to his teaching experience, he has worked in healthcare for over 15 years with the last 10 as a healthcare business leader. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Human Relations. He also holds a Masters in Business Administration. He holds multiple certifications in the radiology discipline with extensive training in computed tomography and MRI.

Milton Sager earned his Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York (SUNY) Fredonia College (2010) with a major in Mathematics. He earned a Master of Arts from MTSU (2013) in Applied Mathematics. His thesis was the research and development of a Switched Reluctance In-Wheel Hub Motor which was the first interdepartmental thesis between the Math and Engineering departments at MTSU. The concept was to put an electric motor inside the rear wheel of a motorcycle eliminating the gasoline engine. He began teaching at Cumberland University in August 2015. Prior to this he had taught at Middle Tennessee State University, Nashville State Community College, and Belmont University.

Other than teaching math, his hobbies include backpacking, collecting vintage Star Wars memorabilia, and woodworking. He has consulted several small businesses such as B&B Metal Works, Paul’s Rocket Stoves, and a few cottage backpacking gear startups on the math and engineering aspects of some of their projects. He and his wife have two children and he runs a men’s small group through his Church.
