Ms. Durham lives in Lebanon, TN. She has taught primarily Spanish and English in North Dakota and Lebanon, Watertown High School, and Friendship Chrisitan School in Wilson County, TN.  She has additional experience in serving as a therapeutic recreation specialist, and as a director and producer for theatre productions. She is retired from the Wilson County School System.

Ms. Durham spends her free time with her large and wonderful family.

Darby Lewis is a ceramic artist born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She chose to get her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics at the Appalachian Center for Craft, at Tennessee Technological University’s art campus. She graduated December 2020. Since graduating she is working on continuing her thesis body of work and focusing on showing her sculptures in galleries. As of 2023, she is the current Adjunct Instructor of Clay at Cumberland University.

Dr. Aaron S. Crawford, Associate Editor of the Martin Van Buren Papers, received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Tennessee. He was previously an Assistant Editor focusing on the Correspondence of James K. Polk, and Assistant Editor on the Paper at the Papers of Andrew Jackson, and an Associate Editor at the Papers of Ulysses S. Grant. Dr. Crawford was also a Fellow at the Center for Presidential History at Southern Methodist University, where he co-conducted oral history interviews for The Last Card in the Deck, a project about the 2006 decision to surge troops in Iraq. He came to Cumberland University in January of 2023.

ASHLEY M. QUINN

Ashley Quinn earned a B.A. in Secondary English education and a B.A. in Secondary mathematics education from Ferris State University in 2017. After teaching High School English at Ionia High School for one year, she decided to continue her education. Quinn received an M.A. degree in English from Grand Valley State University in 2020.

Upon entering the English Ph.D. program at Middle Tennessee State University in 2020, Quinn began teaching first year composition as a graduate assistant. She has since taught ENGL 1010: Expository Writing and ENGL 1020: Research & Argumentative Writing. Additionally, Quinn has guest lectured in film and literature courses at MTSU. 

Quinn’s Ph.D. research has centered around the reclamation of female voices within the horror film genre. However, her dissertation will explore the filmography of Mike Flanagan through a collaborative auterist lens. Outside of the classroom, Quinn is devoted to spending time with her partner and cats (Billy & Kiki).

Lacie Carpenter is an award-winning musician and hit songwriter and is known as a dynamic music performer, author, and scholar.

Lacie actively writes and co-writes with other songwriters and authors.  She spends a lot of time mentoring others to fulfill their highest potential, performing with companies that utilize her musical and theatrical abilities. She speaks internationally on global access to music education, hit songwriting, ethnomusicology, and music psychology in Chengdu, China at the Music Cities Convention and National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Conventions 2019, 2020, and 2022.

Lacie is a psychology and music professor at three colleges within the Nashville area.

Brandon Elkins is an adjunct instructor of Criminal Justice at Cumberland University. Mr. Elkins has been a Special Agent Criminal Investigator with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) since 2013. He is currently assigned to the TBI Criminal Investigation Division in Knoxville, TN where he oversees TBI’s Cold Case Homicide Initiative.

Prior to serving with the TBI, Special Agent Elkins served as Captain of the Criminal Investigation Division for the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office in Jacksboro, TN.

He holds an Associate of Applied Science from Walters State Community College, Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cumberland College, and a Master of Science in Justice Administration from the University of the Cumberlands.

During his career, he has investigated criminal offenses of all kinds, including many homicides, and has a passion for cold case homicide investigations. Mr. Elkins has been successful in identifying five unidentified individuals that were located across the state of Tennessee beginning in the 1970s.

Mr. Elkins has completed hundreds of hours of law enforcement and criminal investigation related training in his career. He is a graduate of the National Forensics Academy, TBI Basic Criminal Investigation School, the TBI Director’s Academy, and is a Nationally Certified Public Manager. He also serves as an instructor for Interview and Interrogation, Cold Case Homicide Investigation, Close Quarter Command and Control, Homicide Investigations, and Crime Scene Investigations for the TBI Special Agent Academy.

He was recognized as one of the “Forty under Forty” by the LaFollette Press in 2017, the recipient of the 2017 Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement from the US Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Tennessee, as the 2018 Special Agent of the Year by the Optimist Club of Knoxville, and the 2021 Tennessee Bureau of Investigation CID Special Agent of the Year. Mr. Elkins was featured on the Investigation Discovery show “See No Evil” in 2018 for a complex murder investigation he conducted in rural East Tennessee. He is also a member of the International Homicide Investigator’s Association.

John A. Ray is Assistant Professor of Voice and Music Program Director for Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN. Prior faculty appointments include Austin Peay State University, Trevecca Nazarene University, Belmont University, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. John holds the degrees Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance (The University of Alabama), Master of Music in Voice (Samford University), Master of Arts in Counseling (Trevecca Nazarene University), and Bachelor of Music Education-Vocal/Choral (Samford University). He is Level Three Certified in Somatic Voiceworks (The Lovetri Method).

John loves teaching singers and uses his many years of training and experience to assist singing performers in improving their art technically, psychologically, and artistically through his studio. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. His students continue to garner awards and careers of high renown as they perform in virtually all genres of music, including appearances on Broadway, theme parks such as Disney, opera companies, cruise lines, as both background singers and lead singers in rock/country/pop music, and as educators.

As a performer, John’s career has taken him to both national and international venues in concert, opera, oratorio, studio work, and musical theater. His credits as bass soloist include the Grammy winning Nashville Symphony, Alabama Symphony, Saint John’s Symphony London, Nashville Opera, Opera of Birmingham and other regional companies/orchestras. He twice served as Bass Soloist/Recitalist for the International Cathedral Music Festival in London, Canterbury, and Salisbury, England. A highlight of his career was the opportunity to serve as Bass Soloist in the oratorio title role of Elijah, by Mendelssohn, under the baton of Metropolitan Opera baritone, Sherrill Milnes. John himself has conducted major music works for chorus and orchestra and has toured as choral conductor or bass section leader with choirs in Scottland, France, Germany, Croatia, Bratislava, Norway, and Poland.

As a church musician, John has served as director of music in churches in Alabama and Tennessee for close to forty years and continues that work as a way to contribute to those volunteers who enjoy the inspiration and fellowship of collaborative singing.

John holds publications with any music publishing houses as both lyricist and composer and has released two self-produced albums under his own music company, Raycreations Music. He has written and directed an opera, Flight 316, and continues premiering original works through the generosity of talented Nashville area performers. Active for over two decades in Nashville’s music scene on the stage, in the recording studio, and as music director, John has directed, or music directed/ pit conducted over 30 staged productions, and has appeared on the Sony label, Word label, Abingdon Press label, and others with performers as diverse as Ben Folds and Michael W. Smith.

John resides in Mt. Julier, TN with his wife, Katherine, and amazing theatrical performer and educator in her own right. He is the proud father of three grown daughters (Candice, Courtney, and Kyndle) and one granddaughter, Ella.

 

DI ANN PERRY

Di Ann Callicott Perry is a native of Union City, Tennessee where she was born and raised. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin and has done graduate work at Union University and Cumberland University.

She is a retired public-school teacher, having taught in the Union City School System, Obion County School System, and Wilson County Schools. In addition, she has taught English at UT-Martin and worked as a writing consultant in the Hortense Parrish Writing Center. Mrs. Perry has served on the Development Committee at UTM and served as chairman of the Friends of UTM. She was also a member of the SACS committee.

She is the mother of two daughters and one son. In addition, she has two grandsons. She is very active in the First Baptist Church of Nashville where she is a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Keyboards at Christmas, Encouragers, VBS, and an instructor in the Music Arts Camp.

Mrs. Perry is actively involved in various community activities, including the parent group of Mount Juliet Christian Academy, where her son attends.

Jared Oakes is an English adjunct instructor teaching courses in freshman composition and sophomore literature. He began teaching at Cumberland University in 2019. A Tennessee native, he did most of his growing up in Knoxville before earning his Bachelor of Arts from Welch College and his Master of Arts from the University of Dallas. Besides Cumberland, he has also taught classes for Welch College, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Nashville State Community College.
