Cumberland Student Chosen as One of Six Delegates to Represent Tennessee at the National Education Association Conference

Cumberland University announced today that Junior student, Yosadara Vicente, has been chosen as one of six students statewide as a delegate to represent the state of Tennessee at the National Education Association Conference in Houston, TX.

Vicente is a junior fine arts major with an art education emphasis from Smithville, TN. She is the first student to receive this honor from Cumberland. Along with being a mother, she serves as President of Cumberland’s Student Tennessee Education Association and is involved in Futuro, Afro, Best Buddies, Pride Alliance, Wesley Foundation and works as a student assistant for the Cumberland Office of Student Success and Resources.

She was nominated as a delegate during the Student Tennessee Education Association Spring Delegate Convention April 12-13 in Cool Springs, TN by a voting delegate from Tennessee State University.

Vicente spoke briefly to the panel about her goals as a representative, including to embrace diversity and to promote inclusion for all. She will be attending both the National Education Association Aspiring Educators Summer Leadership Conference and the National Education Association Representative Assembly this summer in Houston, TX.

Yosadara Vicente is grateful for the opportunity and excited to represent the university.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to represent Cumberland this summer,” Vicente said. “I am constantly surrounded by positive support and encouragement by the organizations I’m involved in. My CU family has definitely helped me grow and I hope to represent them well.”

Dean of the Humanities, Education and the Arts Dr. Eric Cummings is proud to have Vicente represent Cumberland.

“We are proud and excited to have Yosadara represent Cumberland at the annual conference in Houston this summer,” Cummings said. “She was elected with one of the highest vote totals of all delegates and we’re proud to have her representing both CU and Tennessee at this national event.”
