Wilson County Unites to Welcome Cumberland University Students

For the third consecutive year, the Wilson County community is coming together to give a warm welcome to Cumberland University students arriving on campus.

The campus is buzzing with both familiar and new faces, while local businesses are showing their support by sporting CU decorations that give the feeling of home throughout the county.

Businesses are offered yard signs and window decals that can be displayed year-round in support of the Phoenix, helping to build a community filled with CU spirit. These items can be reserved for pickup at any of the Wilson County Chamber of Commerce locations (149 Public Sq, Lebanon, TN 37087 or 2055 N Mt Juliet Rd #200, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) or the Catron Alumni House on Cumberland’s campus. Delivery options are also available. To claim your Community Support Kit, visit this link.

“The Lebanon Wilson County Chamber is honored to partner with Cumberland University for the third year in a row as we celebrate the return of thousands of students to CU’s campus,” explained President and CEO, Melanie Minter. “Cumberland’s Welcome Week initiatives are a great way for the community to rally around the students that call CU home and ensure they feel welcomed and supported throughout Wilson County as they kick off another exciting year. Cumberland students, faculty, and staff are a vital part of our local community as they frequent our businesses, restaurants, and truly embrace Lebanon as their home. Many of our local businesses in various fields employ a number of Cumberland students as they work towards earning their degree and even after graduation. We hope you’ll join us and many others as we Rise Together and support Cumberland University.”

Over 125 local businesses proudly represented the CU Welcome Week materials last year as students settled into their new community. The goal is to grow this number even further this year.

“Participating in Welcome Week is such a simple way to make a huge impact on our CU students. Creating the environment of a college town is so important because when Cumberland students are supported, the whole community benefits,” shared Director of Annual Giving, Katie Wolfe. “We are so grateful for our previous participants and are looking forward to embracing new ones this year!”

Welcome Week is a highly anticipated Cumberland tradition that takes place during the first week of school. This year’s activities include paint parties, water inflatables on the lawn, and movie nights.

As the school year progresses, supporters of CU can continue to make meaningful differences in the lives of our students. For more ways to contribute to student success, visit  www.cumberland.edu/risetogether.
