For the first time Cumberland is offering winter term courses to current and new students. Due to COVID-19, Cumberland will have an extended winter break, lasting from Wednesday, Nov. 25 – Monday, Jan. 25. If you’re interested in getting ahead in coursework, or just getting 2021 off to a productive start, taking online classes during the winter term may be for you!

Winter term will offer courses for undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate courses are available at half the cost of regular full-time tuition and all courses will be completed in either 4 or 8 weeks.

 When does the winter term start?

The winter term consists of full term, A term and B term options. The full winter term starts on Nov. 30 and ends on Jan. 22. Winter A Term starts on Nov. 30 and ends on Dec. 23 and Winter B Term starts on Dec. 28 and ends on Jan. 22. 

Are all winter term courses online?

Yes, all courses during the winter term are virtual and will be delivered via Zoom and CANVAS. 

What courses are available to take?

Current students can view the list of available courses on the homepage of the Cumberland website (www.cumberland.edu) and contact their academic advisor to register. New students must apply to the university at www.cumberland.edu/applynow/ by Nov. 23 before registering for classes.

How much does it cost?

Undergraduate courses for the winter term cost $507 per credit hour and graduate courses cost $585 per credit hour. This is a discount of 50% per credit hour for regular full-time tuition cost for undergraduate students. 

Can I use the Tennessee Promise to pay for winter term?

Unfortunately, financial aid and the Tennessee Promise program are not available for the winter term. To help offset this cost undergraduate courses during the winter term are discounted by 50% per credit hour off of regular full-time tuition.

When do I need to register for winter term courses?

Current Cumberland students can register now by talking to their academic advisor. Students can register for both winter term and Spring 2021 courses at the same time. All current students must register by Nov. 25. 

New students must apply to the university at www.cumberland.edu/applynow/ by Nov. 23 to be able to register for courses by the deadline of Nov. 25. 

Can winter term courses count as prerequisites?

Yes, courses taken during the winter term can serve as prerequisites for courses students wish to take in the Spring 2021 semester. 

Can dual enrollment students take courses during the winter term?

Dual enrollment students are eligible for the winter term courses based on the courses they are already registered for. If you are a dual enrollment student interested in registering for winter courses, you must talk with your high school guidance counselor.
