Cumberland University Greek Life is growing with the addition of a new fraternity on campus and an increase in the number of students being inducted into the academic Greek honor society, Gamma Sigma Alpha.
In March, Greek Life added the Kappa Alpha Psi – Xi Nu colony to campus as the fifth fraternity available for membership at Cumberland.
Initiates of the Xi Nu colony include the following eight Cumberland students: Bryce Evans, Christian Jordan, Kendall Johnson, Rashun Bates, Johnathan Davis, Travon Wimley, Kareem Wright and Chad Foster.
Director of Residence Life and Greek Affairs Catie Straube said the activation of the Kappa Alpha Psi colony at CU was due to an increased interest in the fraternity on campus.
“The Xi Nu colony of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. formed from a group of men that showed interest and desire in the organization. From the Office of Greek Affairs, we contacted the Regional Province to connect us with the Hendersonville Alumni Chapter,” Straube said. “As the colony was pre-established, it was an easy process to move forward with an intake process. We have recently submitted paperwork through the Alumni Chapter to charter our colony officially with Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.”
Additionally, the Cumberland chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha, a Greek honor society, inducted the largest initiation class in school history with 14 new members. Initiates include: Gerardo Alvarez Aguilar (Sigma Chi), Kyle Beale (Kappa Sigma), Tad Brown (Sigma Chi), Trinity Gibson (Sigma Chi), Jair Hernandez (Kappa Sigma), Zachary Jones (Kappa Sigma), Kristopher Parker (Omega Psi Phi), Kristen Rediker (Alpha Sigma Tau), Josh Rial (Sigma Chi), Olivia Schmidt (Alpha Sigma Tau), Jenna Sullivan (Alpha Omicron Pi), Haley Taylor (Alpha Omicron Pi), Tanaya Wilcox (Alpha Sigma Tau).
