Cumberland University announced today that Criminal Justice Program Director and Cumberland alumni, Marjorie Quin, will become the new CEO of End Slavery Tennessee. Suzann Lafferty, a 17-year veteran of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, will take over as program director.

Quin received her M.S. degree in public service management from Cumberland and has been the Program Director and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice since 2017. Prior to coming to Cumberland, Quin served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Her research and advocacy while with the TBI were instrumental in changing the state’s responses to human trafficking, changes which earned Tennessee an “A” rating from Shared Hope International’s Center for Law & Policy.

Dean of the School of Humanities, Education and the Arts, Dr. Eric Cummings, says Quin will be missed.

“Her national prominence has been a huge asset to Cumberland, but even more important for us has been her focus on her students and the strengthening of the program and its alignment with opportunities after college” said Cummings.

Quin added a component to the Criminal Justice program that allows qualified students to finish their last semester in a Police Academy, which leads directly to employment. She will continue to teach a class in the Criminal Justice program as an adjunct instructor.

“We wish her nothing but the best at End Slavery Tennessee and are proud of her accomplishments, said Cummings. “She will always be part of the Cumberland family.”

“Fortunately,” Cummings continued, “Suzann comes in with a different but equally strong skill set and a similar focus on student success both at Cumberland and after.”

Lafferty, a local Lebanon resident, has spent the past 17 years as a Special Agent and Forensic Scientist with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. She has also served in the TBI’s training division, which provides training to TBI and other law enforcement agents all around the state, as well as being an adjunct professor at Cumberland for many years.

“Lafferty will be an exceptional program director and professor,” Cummings said. “Her background in forensic science combined with her experience training agents makes her the full package for this position. We’re excited to see where she takes the program and glad to have her expertise at Cumberland.”
