Academic Excellence and Immersive Learning
Cumberland’s Psychology program has immersive learning opportunities in a small interactive classroom environment, as well as experiential learning outside of the classroom with select students attending regional psychological conferences each year. Psychology faculty members are dedicated to providing learning experiences that inspire student achievement, foster academic excellence, instill ethics and values, promote service, and facilitate lifelong learning. Courses are approached in an array of styles, from lectures and collaborative assignments to experiential activities and discussion forums. Students have many minors to choose from including forensic studies, sociology, anthropology, criminal justice, and more.
What Students Have to Say
“This program is challenging, but manageable. It prepares you for next steps, like grad school, and the professors and advisors are always willing to help with anything. Classes are fun and engaging, rather than just strictly lectures. The small school allows students and professors to create strong relationships as well, which is really beneficial. Overall, the students in this program love every aspect of it!”

Career Outcomes
“The General Psychology program at Cumberland University prepared me, not only with the basic skills I needed in the field, but the required and elective courses taught me how to stand out from all other applicants. When I graduated from Cumberland University in May of 2021, I began working at Autism in Motion as a behavior technician. Through the skills I learned in class, I immediately noticed that I stood out and was ahead of my peers.
I am currently employed by Staffmark as a Recruiting Specialist. Learning interview skills, data entry, and professional writing has prepared me to write job descriptions and the ability to interview incoming employees. This program helped teach me many skills, but more importantly, the connections I made with faculty and staff to pursue these jobs has been one of the biggest take a ways. The faculty and staff have gone to great lengths to help me get into graduate school to further my career. The recommendations provide by the faculty and staff of this program has always been thoughtful and thorough. They take a keen interest in their students and will help them along the way, even after graduating.”
