Cumberland University and Green Hill High School in Mount Juliet, Tennessee are partnering to offer Early College classes to eligible Green Hill students beginning Fall 2023. 

Students who qualify for the Early College Academy at Green Hill will simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Business, or Associate of Arts in Education from Cumberland University. 

“One of our primary objectives at Green Hill High School has been to offer our students ambitious educational opportunities,” said Principal Kevin Dawson. “In partnership with Cumberland University, we are able to achieve this vision by offering an Associate Degree to accompany their high school diploma as well as keeping them engaged in the high school experience. With culture being on the forefront of our educational community, students are able to maintain extracurricular engagement and seek out rigorous academic opportunities, both of which are aligned with the values of Green Hill High School and Cumberland University.”

Cumberland University graduated its first cohort of Early College students last May. Traditionally, local high school cohorts enrolled in Early College have attended classes on Cumberland’s campus. Now, Green Hill students will also have the option to attend rigorous college courses on their high school’s campus. 

“We are looking forward to welcoming Green Hill’s high-achieving students to our Early College program, and providing more convenient access to college courses for students who live outside of Lebanon,” said Cumberland University President Paul C. Stumb. “Amy Grant, our Dual Enrollment and Early College Coordinator and Instructor, has worked diligently to meet the needs of many high schools in our surrounding community. In fact, our university just recently established two new partnerships with Smith and Trousdale Counties.”

Students will be admitted into the Early College Academy and begin attending Green Hill High School during freshman year, allowing time for Green Hill High School counselors to ensure prerequisite high school courses are met. During their junior year, students will be considered full-time Cumberland University students, attending courses as a cohort on the Green Hill campus, and taking five college courses, or 15 credit hours, each semester until graduation.
