The Nurse Educator emphasis provides an in-depth review of learning theories, research, and best practices of nursing education. Graduate Online Learners analyze teaching strategies for diverse populations and environments, and incorporate theory to practice. The program prepares the graduate to develop program design, deliver content, and perform formative and summative evaluations techniques. The Nurse Educator emphasis is designed to prepare nurses for educational roles in academia, health care organizations, and health care systems.

In this course, learners analyze concepts and theories pertinent to the practice of professional nursing. Learners examine historical, legal, cultural, economic, and social factors that influence nursing and health care delivery. Philosophical perspectives upon the professional nursing practice are considered. Nursing theories are addressed as frameworks for practice and strategies are discussed for analyzing and managing ethical dilemmas in nursing and health care.

MSN 5110 Nursing Research and Scholarly Synthesis
This course provides the learner with an in-depth review of research processes, including quantitative, qualitative, and outcomes research designs. Learners examine research problems in nursing practice, explore ethical and legal issues related to nursing research and apply a theoretical model in designing a research study. Emphasis is placed on use of evidence-based practice (EBP).

In this course the learner will focus on information systems and technologies that support the clinical setting. In this course, the learner is prepared to examine underlying mechanisms of changes in physiology by a systematic examination of disease. In this course the learner will examine the principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics of drugs that are commonly used in managing acute and chronic illnesses in adults. Importance is placed upon decision-making in therapeutic drug selection and monitoring response for diverse patients. Patient education, ethical, socio-economic, and legal issues are addressed. Additionally, practice and regulatory components of APRN prescribing are reviewed.

MSN 6130 Curriculum Frameworks and Design
Learners in this course focus on the role in higher education or peer education. Learners are prepared for course and curricula design and program outcome assessment, along with roles of faculty and administrators in these processes. Several philosophical approaches will be considered that fit the schools programs beliefs, assumptions, and values including core nursing concepts: health promotion, critical thinking and decision making, evidence based nursing, student/faculty collaboration, and patient assessment. In addition, core concepts of curriculum will be examined that include: Constructivism/Post-positivism, Humanism-existentialism, Critical social theory, Collaborative inquiry, epistemology, Action-sensitive pedagogy, Apprenticeship/Cognitive apprenticeship, Behaviorism/positivism, and Feminism.

Additionally, learners will develop a resume and philosophy of nursing education.
